Write at CPL: Fairy Tales and Intuitive Magic

Join other aspiring authors this fall for Write at CPL , a series of workshops presented by our partners at Story Studio . This workshop will focus on Fairy Tales and Intuitive Magic and is led by David Welch.
In opposition to what we're often taught, fairy tales depend on flatness and abstraction. We'll consider this idea for the evening, specifically how tales combine these techniques with what Kate Berheimer refers to as "intuitive logic and formalized magic." How exactly can writers use flatness and abstraction to fashion engaging images? How do our stories intuitively move? How does one "formalize magic," anyway? Beginning with an overview of Bernheimer's definitions, we'll then use them to explore several contemporary stories as well as our own writing.

Due to limited space, registration is required.
